SANTOLUBES® UHE Synthetic Base Oils

SANTOLUBES® UHE synthetic base oils are a new Group V base oil technology recently developed by Santolubes.

They are available currently in two viscosity grades for blending from ISO 22 to ISO 680 products. These new base oils have extreme high Viscosity Indices (VI) and extremely low elastohydrodynamic shear strengths (or coefficients of traction) over a wide range of conditions. In fact, they have the lowest coefficients of traction ever reported. These two major features make these base oils suitable for blending lubricating fluids with excellent film thickness protection across a wide temperature range and for blending lubricating fluids with unprecedented energy efficiency. Additionally, they are completely stable to viscosity sheardown in EHL applications and thus maintain their superior lubricating throughout their long service life in properly formulated fluids.


Features and Benefits

The Santolubes UHE Series of fully synthetic lubricants is specifically designed to eclipse the performance of mineral, PAO, and PAG lubricants in gear and rotary compression applications. The rare properties of Santolubes UHE oils, in industrial gears, allows for higher torque throughput from the reducer, at the same time decreasing the operating oil sump temperatures, by double digits, correlating to longer seal life, gearbox, and finally oil life. The high solvency properties of Santolubes UHE creates enhanced equipment protection from sludge and varnish.

Features compared to other mineral, PAG, PAO, and other synthetic lubricants

There are various types of synthetic base oils. The inherent properties of these oils can differ depending on the raw materials and processes used in their manufacture. Features that can differ among various synthetic oils are the efficiency from reduced shearing losses, solvency, thermal conduction, and hydrophilic-hydrophobic properties.

High Efficiency

The Santolubes researchers have created the UHE Base Oils to produce the pinnacle of energy efficiency performance relative to mineral, PAO, PAGs, and all other synthetic oils. This coupled with the increases of thermal conduction properties of approximately 15% over PAG oils, and more significant conduction versus PAO and mineral oils, especially in gearboxes that have significant slip in the gear mesh cycle. These thermal conductivity properties, lead to much lower operating temperatures and superior component and oil longevity.

Wide Termperatures

The Santolubes UHE Series has a very high Vis ranging from 209 for the ISO 22 to 205 for the ISO 680. This creates a large scale operating temperature range, beyond that of Mineral oil lubricants, and other synthetic oils and blends.

Rust Protection

The Santolubes UHE Series passes the ASTM D665 Rust test without issue

Foam Control

Foam Control is important, especially in boxes that are “Sealed for Life.” Santolubes UHE Series provides superior results in all three sequences of ASTM D 892 Foam Test.

EP/Antiwear

Having the best EP/AW protection is important, especially in gearboxes that contain bronze and other less chemically-inert metals. The Santolubes UHE Series of lubricants show excellent EP/Antiwear protection with typical results of 12+ in the DIN5134-2 FZG Scuffing test.

Applications

The Santolubes UHE is for use most-especially with worm gears but also with other gears geometries that maintain a lot of slip in the meshing cycles. Still have a ways to go to legitimately make this claim The Santolubes UHE series is designed for all types of heavy-duty gearboxes, industrial gearing, rotary and non-rotary compressors, and lubrications of plain and rolling contact bearings to provide unequalled superior protection and efficiency.

Specific Applications include:

  • High ratio / low efficiency worm gears, and filled for life gearboxes
  • Worm gearbox applications, that include but are not limited to, conveyors, material handling, press drives, ski lifts, agitators and mixers, escalators,
    packaging machinery, and the like
  • Other gear and bearing applications in food and textile, metalworking, plastics, cement, and other finishing industries.
  • Superior lubricity, with premium efficiency far above the current standards set by other synthetics
  • Compression utilizing rotary, screw, centrifugal, and reciprocating type compressors in extreme conditions beyond other synthetic and mineral lubricant

Application Notes

Santolubes UHE based lubricants have far superior innate lubrication properties. There can be limitations with respect to compatibility of seal and coatings, varieties of light metals, and other lubricants not tested. Before using, contact your Santolubes representative, or your OEM on application advice.

Compatibility with other lubricants

The Santolubes UHE is compatible with virtually all mineral oils and synthetic lubricants. Systems that have been filled with other mineral oils, PAG, and PAO based synthetic lubricants do not require an extreme clean out / flushing, therefore you can drain, refill, and put the system back into service. Water

Water is not soluble in the Santolubes UHE series

Seal Comp

Santolubes UHE based lubricants has a wide variety of compatibility with most standard seal materials used. Should there be incompatible materials used, the materials are likely to swell or shrink, causing leakage or seizure of the seal. FKM Teflon® (PTFE),Nylon 6,6, HNBR, NBR, Neoprene, and Fluroelastomers are normally suited with Santolubes UHE. In all cases, operating conditions and the variability of the elastomer properties from the different manufactures should be considered. For best results consult the seal manufacturer for specific recommendations.

Light Metal Alloys

Santolubes UHE based lubricants has a wide variety of compatibility with most standard seal materials used. Other Materials

Interiors in contact with the lubricant should be left uncoated. Materials used for oil level gauges, inspection doors, etc. should be preferably made with natural glass or polyamide materials. Other transparent plastics, such as plexiglass, may deteriorate and crack under stress.

Health and Safety

Based on available information, Santolubes UHE is not expected to have adverse reactions on health, when the used for the designed application, and the recommendations provided in the SDS are followed. SDSs are available upon request through your sales office, or via the internet. When disposing of used product, care should be taken for the protection of the environment.
